Dash Cams
Dash cams compared on the resolution they record against the resolution their image sensor can physically see, plus the sensor itself, the second channel, whether power backup is a supercapacitor or a lithium battery, and what parking mode actually records.
| 5.8 A true 4K sensor from an older generation at a price that keeps making sense, though the lithium battery inside is a summer liability. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony IMX415 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Lithium battery | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 7.8 Real flagship glass at a mid-range price, let down by an app that treats your footage as an occasion for account creation. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 7.6 The cloud and the parking behaviour are genuinely a class above, and you pay flagship money for a rear channel that stops at 1080p. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 (8.4 MP, model not stated) | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Buffered | |
| 6.4 Native 4K in a body the size of a lipstick, with storage built in, so what you buy is what you are stuck with. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony IMX415 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | None | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 6.2 Buy it for the mount, the app and the fact that it just works; do not buy it expecting to read a plate two lanes over. | 1080p (1920×1080) | Not disclosed | Not disclosed | None | Lithium battery | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 7.0 Same excellent optics and voice control as its 4K sibling for noticeably less, and 1440p is enough for plates at sane following distances. | 1440p (2560×1440) | Not disclosed | Not disclosed | None | Lithium battery | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 7.4 The built-in polarizer does more for real footage than most sensor upgrades, but Garmin sells the parking cable separately and puts a lithium battery in a device that lives on a windshield. | 4K (3840×2160) | Not disclosed | Not disclosed | None | Lithium battery | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 6.0 One of the few rigs putting a genuine 8 MP sensor on the rear window, from a brand that will not say whose sensors they are. | 4K (3840×2160) | 8 MP CMOS (unnamed) | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 4K (3840×2160) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 6.6 Genuinely clever connected-car features wrapped around a subscription, and it needs hardwiring before most of what you paid for switches on. | 4K (3840×2160) | OmniVision 8 MP (unnamed) | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Cabin 1440p (2560×1440) | Not stated | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 6.0 A tidy, tiny, genuinely pleasant camera to live with, sold by a company that will not tell you what is behind the lens. | 1440p (2560×1440) | Not disclosed | Not disclosed | None | Not stated | Impact only | |
| 4.6 Three channels and an infrared cabin view for very little money, sold under a 4K headline the listing's own sensor number contradicts. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 | 2592×1944 (5 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 5.6 Throwing in the hardwire kit is more generous than most rivals manage, but a brand that names the sensor tier and not the sensor is telling on itself. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 (model not stated) | Not disclosed | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 4.4 The best-selling dash cam on Amazon records an upscaled picture, and the same money buys a camera whose sensor matches its marketing. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 | 2592×1944 (5 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 8.0 ROVE quietly fixed its own headline problem: this is the flagship sensor pair at roughly half what the enthusiast brands charge for it. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 2K (2560×1440) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 5.5 Nothing here is exciting and nothing here is a lie, which makes it a reasonable thing to put in a car you do not care about. | 1080p (1920×1080) | 2 MP CMOS (unnamed) | 1920×1080 (2 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 8.5 Radar parking and real STARVIS 2 glass in a discreet wedge, held back only by a 256GB card ceiling that fills faster than it should at 4K. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 2K (2560×1440) | Supercapacitor | Buffered + low-power wake | |
| 8.7 Built-in front and rear radar means it watches a parked car for weeks on a few milliamps, which is the problem every other brand solves by draining your battery. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 2K (2560×1440) | Supercapacitor | Buffered + low-power wake | |
| 3.6 Still on shelves, still wearing a 4K badge over a 5 MP sensor, and the infrared cabin channel is the only reason to consider it over the Pro. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony IMX335 | 2592×1944 (5 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 8.3 The default choice for rideshare and anyone who needs the cabin on record, and unlike the N4 it never sold the 4K badge on a smaller sensor. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Motion or time-lapse | |
| 7.2 Four channels of genuinely useful coverage for taxis and fleet cars, and it quotes 2.7K because that is exactly what the sensor gives it. | 2.7K (2592×1944) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 | 2592×1944 (5 MP) | Rear 1080p (1920×1080) | Supercapacitor | Buffered | |
| 8.6 Small enough to vanish behind a mirror, honest about what its sensor does, and cheap enough that hiding one in a second car stops feeling extravagant. | 2K (2560×1440) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 | 2592×1944 (5 MP) | None | Supercapacitor | Buffered | |
| 8.8 Sells a 5 MP sensor as 2K instead of dressing it up as 4K, and matching HDR on both channels beats a fake fourth K every night of the week. | 2K (2560×1440) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 | 2592×1944 (5 MP) | Rear 2K (2560×1440) | Supercapacitor | Buffered | |
| 9.2 The same pair of STARVIS 2 sensors as the flagship for meaningfully less money, and the buffered parking mode works out of the box rather than after a settings expedition. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 2K (2560×1440) | Supercapacitor | Buffered | |
| 9.5 The one camera here that does everything a dash cam is supposed to do without an asterisk, and the only one that will record to a 4TB SSD instead of a card that wears out. | 4K (3840×2160) | Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 | 3840×2160 (8 MP) | Rear 2K (2560×1440) | Supercapacitor | Buffered + low-power wake |
How the AI score works, and who wrote it
A language model rated these, not a test lab. Every score from 1 to 10 is an AI assessment of how good the product is against the other 24 in this comparison, formed from the specifications we verified plus the published lab reviews and owner reception found while researching each one. Nobody at Slopsheets listened to, wore or plugged in any of it.
It weighs the things a spec table cannot show: how a product is actually reviewed, how well the software works, build quality, and what you get for the money. That is deliberate. An earlier version of this column was pure arithmetic on the table and it ranked a bundle of cheap boxes above a class-leading single unit, because counting hardware is not the same as judging it.
Treat it as an informed starting point and read the sourced comparison, not as a verdict. The score is relative to this comparison only, so it means nothing across categories, and it carries no price, star rating or review count. Every specification behind it is sourced and checked; the score on top of them is opinion.
