Every smart scale on this list will tell you what you weigh. That's the easy part, and none of them get it badly wrong. What separates them is everything around that number: whether the body-fat reading comes through your feet alone or through your hands too, whether the weigh-in reaches your phone without you holding it, and whether the "50+ metrics" on the box mean anything at all.

Two things changed the smart scale shelf in 2026. Hand-to-foot scanning, which used to mean paying for a Withings Body Scan, is now on budget scales from Wyze and Renpho. And eufy quietly left: its own blog post from March 27, 2026 says the eufy smart scale line has been discontinued in the US, which knocked a few long-time favorites off the board.

We lined up 18 brand-name smart scales from Withings, Etekcity, Renpho, Wyze, iHealth, Garmin and Fitbit and checked every spec against manufacturer spec pages and manuals, then against hands-on reviews from Tom's Guide, TechRadar, CNET, Tech Advisor, Live Science, BGR and others. The full sortable sheet has all 18 side by side. This page covers what a table can't.

Quick answer: The Withings Body Smart is the best smart scale for most people: Wi-Fi sync, heart rate, a 440 lb rating and the most polished app here. The Etekcity HR Smart Fitness Scale is the best value, with Wi-Fi, heart rate and a rechargeable battery. If you want hand-to-foot (segmental) body composition without the Withings price, get the Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan. If you want the most complete home body and heart readout, the Withings Body Scan is still the one to beat.

How many body metrics does a smart scale actually measure?

Between 2 and 16 on this sheet, once you count them honestly. Brands don't, so we did.

The box numbers are all over the place. Renpho sells the MorphoScan Nova and MorphoScan Base as "50+ metrics". Wyze's Amazon listings for its BodyScan scales say 44. Both get there by counting every limb's fat and muscle as separate metrics, so a left-arm reading and a right-arm reading become two items. Wyze also counts heart rate on scales where the heart rate is measured by your phone's camera, not by the scale.

Our table counts distinct measurement types, including weight, with a per-limb breakdown counted once. On that basis:

The Renpho MorphoScan Base cell is blank. Renpho only ever says "50+" for it and never lists them, so there is nothing to count.

The box says

50+ metrics, so it must tell you far more than a 12-metric Withings.

The bathroom says

Most of those are the same few fat and muscle estimates split by limb. The Withings Body Scan's 12 include a 6-lead ECG, which no budget scale here offers at any count.

Read the column as a rough tier, not a ranking. The three 16-metric scales lead because they report segmental data and a few extra composition estimates. The Withings Body Scan sits at 12 but adds heart readings that are a different class of measurement entirely.

Slopsheets says: Use the metric count to separate weight loggers from body-composition scales, then stop looking at it. What a scale explains in its app matters more than how many numbers it prints.

Which smart scales have hand-to-foot segmental analysis?

Five scales here read you hand to foot: the Withings Body Scan, Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan, Wyze Scale BodyScan, Renpho MorphoScan Nova and Renpho MorphoScan Base. Each has a handle on a cable with electrodes you grip while you stand on the plate. That lets the scale estimate fat and muscle in your arms, legs and trunk separately, instead of extrapolating your whole body from a current that only runs up one leg and down the other.

5 of 18
scales on this sheet now read you through your hands as well as your feet, and only one of them is a Withings.

How the five compare:

Pay up only if: you're tracking where muscle goes, not just how much you have (lifting, rehab, one-sided sports). For plain weight and body-fat trends, a foot-only scale tells you the same story.

Are smart scale body fat readings accurate?

They're estimates, and the honest way to use them is as a trend line, not a lab result. Every scale here uses bioelectrical impedance: it sends a tiny current through you and infers body fat from the resistance. Hydration, a recent meal or a workout can all move the number.

Hand-to-foot scanning helps, but it doesn't turn a bathroom scale into a DEXA machine, as EFTM's Renpho test showed. Weight itself is the reliable part: Tech Advisor found the Etekcity HR's readings closely matched a Withings scale, and TechRadar called the Garmin Index S2 fast, accurate and consistent.

What the box won't tell you: Weigh in at the same time, same conditions, every day, and watch the weekly direction. A single morning's body-fat figure is closer to a weather report than a measurement.

What's the maximum weight capacity of a smart scale?

400 lb is the floor on this sheet, and Withings goes higher. The Withings Body Smart, Body Comp and Body Scan are all rated to 440 lb. Every other scale with a published figure here is rated to 400 lb, including the budget Etekcity and Wyze models and both Renpho MorphoScans.

The one blank is the Renpho Elis Aspire. Its Amazon listing gives an obviously wrong figure, and we couldn't find a US manufacturer number, so we left it empty rather than guess.

Which smart scales sync over Wi-Fi?

Seven of the 18: the three Withings, the Garmin Index S2, the Etekcity HR, the Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan and the Renpho Elis Aspire. On a Wi-Fi scale you step on, step off, and the reading lands in your account with your phone still on the nightstand.

The other eleven are Bluetooth only, and how much that hurts varies:

The Wyze split is worth knowing. The Scale Ultra BodyScan has Wi-Fi and the newer, cheaper Scale BodyScan doesn't, even though Wyze says they measure the same way.

The catch: If you won't reliably carry your phone into the bathroom, Bluetooth-only scales slowly stop logging. Wi-Fi is the single biggest quality-of-life spec on this sheet.

Which smart scales measure heart rate?

Only five scales here measure heart rate through the plate: the Withings Body Smart, Body Comp and Body Scan, the Etekcity HR Smart Fitness Scale and the iHealth Nexus Pro. The Gadgeteer's hands-on review describes the iHealth taking the reading while you stand barefoot, which makes it one of the cheapest ways to get a real scale-measured pulse.

That's fewer than the listings suggest. Wyze advertises heart rate for its scales, but Wyze's own FAQ says it's measured by holding a fingertip over your phone's camera. The scale isn't involved, so our table marks every Wyze as no. The Garmin Index S2 doesn't measure it either.

What the four do with that reading differs. The Withings Body Comp adds vascular age and a nerve-health score on top of standing heart rate. The Body Scan adds a 6-lead ECG through the handle. The Body Smart gives you the standing heart rate on its own, and Tom's Guide picked it as the best smart scale for most people anyway.

Don't overpay for: a heart reading you already have. If you wear a watch that tracks heart rate, a scale's version is a nice extra. If you don't, the Etekcity HR adds it for a lot less than a Withings.

Which smart scales have a rechargeable battery?

Four. The Withings Body Scan, the Etekcity HR and the Renpho MorphoScan Nova charge over USB-C, and Withings rates the Body Scan at up to a year per charge while Renpho rates the Nova at up to 150 days. The fourth is the Renpho Elis Solar, which has no charging port at all: Renpho says its built-in cell tops up from sunlight or indoor light.

Everything else runs on disposable AA or AAA cells, including the Withings Body Smart and Body Comp. Wyze rates the Scale S at up to 18 months on a set of AAAs, so for most scales this is a once-a-year chore.

Which smart scale should you buy?

Skip the Fitbit Aria Air unless all you want is weight logged into Fitbit. And treat the Renpho Elis Aspire as a fallback: it's a Wi-Fi Renpho, but it's an older model that has slipped well down Amazon's rankings.

FAQ

Do any smart scales need a subscription?

No scale here needs one to weigh you or report body composition. Withings sells an optional Withings+ subscription, and some extra scores sit behind it (Tom's Guide notes the Body Smart's Health Improvement Score is one). Wyze says it charges nothing for measurements or reports, and Renpho advertises zero subscription fees on the MorphoScan Nova.

Which smart scale is best for a shared household?

The Renpho Elis 1 supports unlimited users, CNET notes unlimited profiles on the Etekcity HR, and the Wyze Scale X handles up to 8. Set up every person's profile on the first day so readings don't get assigned to the wrong person.

What happened to eufy smart scales?

eufy discontinued its smart scale line in the US, per its own March 27, 2026 announcement, and its scales show as unavailable on Amazon US. If you're replacing a eufy, the Etekcity HR is the closest match: a color screen, heart rate and Wi-Fi.

Which smart scale pairs best with a fitness watch?

Start with your watch's own ecosystem. The Garmin Index S2 syncs straight into Garmin Connect and the Fitbit Aria Air into Fitbit. If you use Apple Health or another platform, Withings, Etekcity, Renpho and Wyze each sync through their own apps, so check the integration list for the one you use before you buy.
