Snow Blowers
every snow blower we track, one row each, battery, gas and corded side by side. sort by intake height to see which can swallow a plow ridge, or by weight to find one you can actually steer and store. weights are the maker's own figures, and battery machines are usually weighed bare.
| 7.3 An all-steel small two-stage that stores easily and steers well thanks to Auto-Turn, though it clogs in wet snow and labors in deep plow piles. | 24 in | 20 in Ariens lists housing height as 20 in. | Two-stage | Gas | Disc-O-Matic drive, 6 forward and 2 reverse, with Auto-Turn steering; 224cc engine with electric start. | 187.5 lb | |
| 8.4 A steel auger, cast-iron gear case and Auto-Turn steering eat heavy wet snow and plow piles, though some owners report Auto-Turn and fuel-leak niggles. | 24 in | 21 in Ariens lists housing height as 21 in. | Two-stage | Gas | Disc-O-Matic drive, 6 forward and 2 reverse, with Auto-Turn steering; 252cc engine with 120V electric start. | 227 lb 227 lb assembled per Ariens; some retailers list 231 to 290 lb. | |
| 8.0 The widest path here and owners call it built like a tank in deep, wet snow, though it is heavy, loud, and draws some reliability complaints after year two. | 28 in | 21 in Ariens lists housing height as 21 in. | Two-stage | Gas | Disc-O-Matic drive, 6 forward and 2 reverse; 252cc engine. | 232.7 lb | |
| 7.2 The value two-stage: easy starts and smooth drive for far less than Ariens or Honda money, with a smaller engine that can bog in heavy snow. | 24 in | 20 in | Two-stage | Gas | 6 forward and 2 reverse; 208cc engine with push-button electric start. | 186 lb 186 lb assembled per CRAFTSMAN. | |
| 5.8 Steel auger and about an hour of runtime, but slippery plastic wheels, bogging in packed piles, and a premium price for a single-stage. | 21 in | 13 in 13 in. per retailer spec tables and DEWALT Canada (33.02 cm). DEWALT rates its ideal snow depth at 6 in. | Single-stage | Battery | 59 lb 59 lb bare, without the two DCB612 batteries (Bob Vila and retailer listings). DEWALT's own page lists no weight. | ||
| 8.1 The single-stage to beat: the steel auger handles dense end-of-driveway slush that stops plastic paddles, and it runs quietly with instant starts. | 21 in | 13 in | Single-stage Sold bare (SNT2110) or as kits with two 5.0Ah (SNT2112) or two 7.5Ah (SNT2114) batteries. | Battery | Push machine; the rubber-tipped steel auger pulls it forward but the wheels are not driven. | 53 lb 53 lb without batteries, per EGO's SNT2110 manual spec table. Retailers list 50.6 to 51 lb. | |
| 7.0 Thousands of satisfied owners and a full three-car driveway per charge, but its rubber auger gives up sooner in heavy wet snow than the Peak Power version. | 21 in | 13 in | Single-stage | Battery | Push machine with an auger-assisted single stage. | 53.35 lb 53.35 lb (24.2 kg) without battery, per EGO's SNT2100 manual (same machine; SNT2102 is the kit with two 5.0Ah packs). Retailers list 50 to 51 lb. | |
| 8.7 The battery two-stage that reviewers keep comparing to gas: strong drive, about 50 ft of throw, and a huge, happy owner base, held back only by runtime in wet snow. | 24 in | 20 in | Two-stage | Battery | Variable-speed self-propel with forward and reverse, per EGO. | 143.3 lb 143.3 lb without batteries, per EGO's SNT2400 manual spec table and Bob Vila. Some retailers list 150 lb. | |
| 8.2 Moves heavy wet snow like a mid-size gas machine with none of the engine upkeep, but once batteries are added it costs more than comparable gas blowers. | 24 in | 20 in | Two-stage | Battery | 146.6 lb 146.6 lb without batteries, per EGO Canada (iGO+) and Techaeris. Runs on two 56V batteries; the SNT2416 kit adds two 10.0Ah packs and a charger. | ||
| 4.9 The bargain-bin option: light and easy for a short walk, but the weakest motor here and a plastic impeller that stalls in wet snow. | 20 in | 10 in Greenworks lists a 10 in. clearing depth. | Single-stage | Corded electric | 36 lb 36 lb per Greenworks' spec table; US retailers list 30 to 32 lb. | ||
| 6.6 Light, cheap to run, and fine for an average driveway of fresh snow, but its plastic impeller and short handle struggle once snow turns deep and wet. | 20 in | 10 in Greenworks' headline spec says 10 in. clearing depth; one line of its own detail table says 12 in. | Single-stage | Battery | 34.4 lb 34.4 lb without battery, 38.68 lb with, per Greenworks. | ||
| 8.9 Consumer Reports' recommended compact two-stage, with hydrostatic drive and Honda engine durability, though it has no heated grips and costs the most here. | 23.8 in Honda lists 23.8 in.; it is marketed as a 24 in. machine. | 21.7 in | Two-stage | Gas | Hydrostatic, infinitely variable wheel drive; Honda GX200 engine. | 209 lb Honda dry weight; the electric-start AWD version is 220 lb. | |
| 7.4 A tough metal-reinforced auger and a full hour on one big battery, but its weight distribution tips easily and it is happiest in light-to-moderate snow. | 21 in | 12 in | Single-stage | Battery | Toro lists the drive as Push. A separate model (39921) is the self-propelled e21. | 55 lb 55 lb per toro.com, which does not say whether the 7.5Ah battery is included. | |
| 7.1 Gas-style steel build with heated grips and a joystick chute, but it is heavier than many gas machines and two batteries last about half an hour. | 24 in | 20 in | Two-stage | Battery | Six forward and two reverse speeds; a third battery bay takes an extra 60V pack. | 172 lb 172 lb per toro.com, which does not say whether batteries are included. | |
| 7.9 One of the best-loved snow blowers anywhere: light, electric-start, and it scrapes paved driveways clean, as long as you avoid gravel and deep plow piles. | 21 in | 12.5 in | Single-stage | Gas | Toro calls its drive 'Power Propel': the auger grips the pavement and pulls the machine forward, but the wheels are not driven. Marked No for consistency with other auger-assisted single-stages. | 84 lb | |
| 8.3 TopTenReviews' best overall after clearing heavy Utah snow, with an excellent joystick chute and less bulk than the Ariens or Honda, though some plastic parts crack. | 24 in | 20 in | Two-stage | Gas | Friction-disk drive, 6 forward and 2 reverse; 252cc engine with electric start. | 184 lb | |
| 7.7 Fast, light and easy to steer with Personal Pace drive, but its lower intake limits deep drifts, and it costs nearly as much as a real two-stage. | 24 in | 18 in | Single-stage Toro's spec table says single stage; the in-line auger feeds a separate high-speed impeller, so some retailers call it two-stage. | Gas | Personal Pace self-propelled rear-wheel drive; 252cc engine with electric start. | 131 lb | |
| 5.6 A cheap, well-rated corded thrower with a full-width 15-amp motor and headlights, as long as your snow is light and your cord reaches. | 20 in | 10 in WEN says it clears 20 in. wide and 10 in. deep; no separate intake figure is published. | Single-stage | Corded electric | 36.4 lb WEN lists no weight; Amazon's spec table shows 36.4 lb (16.51 kg). |
How the AI score works, and who wrote it
A language model rated these, not a test lab. Every score from 1 to 10 is an AI assessment of how good the product is against the other 18 in this comparison, formed from the specifications we verified plus the published lab reviews and owner reception found while researching each one. Nobody at Slopsheets listened to, wore or plugged in any of it.
It weighs the things a spec table cannot show: how a product is actually reviewed, how well the software works, build quality, and what you get for the money. That is deliberate. An earlier version of this column was pure arithmetic on the table and it ranked a bundle of cheap boxes above a class-leading single unit, because counting hardware is not the same as judging it.
Treat it as an informed starting point and read the sourced comparison, not as a verdict. The score is relative to this comparison only, so it means nothing across categories, and it carries no price, star rating or review count. Every specification behind it is sourced and checked; the score on top of them is opinion.
Frequently asked questions
how wide a clearing path do i need?
21 inches suits most one- and two-car driveways and walks. 24 inches saves a few passes on bigger driveways, and 28 inches only pays off on long rural driveways or big parking pads, where the extra weight is worth it.
which snow blower spec is mostly marketing?
throw distance. it's a best-case figure in dry powder, and makers measure it differently, which is why this table leaves it out. intake height and stage type tell you far more about how a machine handles heavy snow.
why do snow blower weights differ between stores?
retailers often list shipping weight, a kit with batteries, or an older revision. we use the manufacturer's figure and note in the table whether a battery machine's weight includes its packs.
does a corded snow blower still make sense?
for a short walk or a small driveway in light snow, yes. corded throwers are the lightest and cheapest machines in the table, but their 10-inch intakes and the cord itself limit them to small jobs.
