How the AI score works, and who wrote it

A language model rated these, not a test lab. Every score from 1 to 10 is an AI assessment of how good the product is against the other 24 in this comparison, formed from the specifications we verified plus the published lab reviews and owner reception found while researching each one. Nobody at Slopsheets listened to, wore or plugged in any of it.

It weighs the things a spec table cannot show: how a product is actually reviewed, how well the software works, build quality, and what you get for the money. That is deliberate. An earlier version of this column was pure arithmetic on the table and it ranked a bundle of cheap boxes above a class-leading single unit, because counting hardware is not the same as judging it.

Treat it as an informed starting point and read the sourced comparison, not as a verdict. The score is relative to this comparison only, so it means nothing across categories, and it carries no price, star rating or review count. Every specification behind it is sourced and checked; the score on top of them is opinion.

Frequently asked questions

Which column should I sort by first when choosing a humidifier?

Start with type. Ultrasonic units are quiet and usually filter-free but spread tap-water minerals as white dust, evaporative units leave the minerals in a wick you replace, and steam units boil the water clean but use more power and get hot. Once you know the type, narrow by rated coverage for your room.

Why do humidifiers with the same tank size list very different runtimes?

Runtime is rated at each model's lowest output, and minimum output varies a lot between designs. A unit that can idle at a trickle will claim far more hours from the same tank than one whose lowest setting is still strong. Compare runtimes as a rough guide, not a like-for-like measurement.

Do all the humidifiers on this sheet need replacement filters?

No. Every evaporative model uses a wick that has to be replaced, from every few weeks to every few months depending on the maker. Most ultrasonic and steam models here are filter-free, though several sell optional demineralization cartridges for hard water.

Is a bigger tank always the better buy?

Only if you can comfortably carry it. A full six-liter tank is heavy, and the large consoles hold several gallons. Bigger tanks mean fewer refills, but a top-fill design you can top up from a jug often matters more day to day than raw capacity.

What does a blank in the app control column mean for everyday use?

Nothing important if the model has a built-in humidistat and a timer, since it can hold a target humidity on its own. The app mainly adds scheduling and a humidity history. A model with neither app nor humidistat has to be adjusted by hand as the weather changes.
